Category Descriptions

Cost per mL: This measure was chosen as the bottle sizes between products were not equal in this comparison.

Potency: Proprietary blends hide the true potency of the main ingredient and the water content. Our best intelligence reveals many of these drinks have 2-20% of the bottle as the main ingredient, with water as high as 75% of the bottle. Distributors are led to believe more than half the bottle is filled with the main ingredient and no water is added. Bottlers know this is untrue as these drinks are made from purees and concentrates that must be reconstituted with water. AlpineV is 42% alpine sandthorn berry puree (25 grams per 2 ounce serving) with water as a distant second ingredient. Nobody is more potent than AlpineV.

Super-Fruit Nutrients: Each of these super-fruits can provide great benefits to the body with sufficient potency. Even if the potency was equal among these drinks, the alpine sandthorn berry provides the most dense and most complete spectrum of nutrients. No other fruit comes close.

Research: PubMed.gov is the online information site for all studies kept by the US government's National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. The numbers of studies listed here overlap some as search terms may be included in some of the same studies. Still, alpine sandthorn berry is best represented in the research. (Note: Mangosteen proponents will say you must point to all the studies done on xanthones, however, that is like attributing all the 36,447 studies on flavonoids to the alpine sandthorn berry because it contains flavonoids. Under those conditions, alpine sandthorn berry still far and away beats out the research on mangosteen.)

Historical Use: Some of the more popular or trendy drinks in this class have narrow historical representation or are utilized narrowly in modern clinical settings. The alpine sandthorn berry has broad documented use from the past to the present.

Cheap Juice Fillers: Industry professionals, everyone from the juice suppliers to the bottlers refer to apple juice, pear juice and grape juice as “fillers”. These are cheap juices used to “fill” the bottle and add very little nutritional value. Many drinks in this class use some or all of these cheap fillers in combinations to sweeten the drink while keeping costs as low as possible. AlpineV is one of the most expensive drinks to produce in the industry, yet it is available for only about a penny more per mL than the cheapest juices in its class.

Number of Fruit Ingredients: Logic tells you the more fruits you include in a drink, the smaller the amount each fruit will have to be to fit into one serving. The smaller the amount of each fruit in a serving, the less potent each of those fruits will be. The ideal supplement drink will include a very large majority of the main ingredient with very few additional fruits to add flavor and maintain higher levels of potency. That ideal supplement drink is AlpineV with alpine sandthorn berry, guanabana (pronounced gwa-nah-buh-nah ), watermelon and pomegranate.

Preservatives:
Our best intelligence reveals there are very few drinks in this class that are bottled preservative free, including AlpineV. There are 3 good reasons for this; formula, technology and cost.  Formula: A true health drink should be preservative free. Companies will spend tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to develop a preservative free version of their blend, but cannot. Many of the juices they are using in their formula do not coexist well without the aid of preservatives curbing yeast, mold and bacterial growth. Since most of them use cheap sweet fillers, one might draw the conclusion these juices are the culprits. Companies do not want to give up their fillers so they are left with a formula that must be aided by preservatives. These companies will claim they chose not to go preservative free. The truth is they can't or don't want to for technological or cost reasons.  Technology: Most bottlers do not have the technology to bottle preservative free. Companies' short-sighted choice of manufacturers and service providers mean they cannot provide a superior product to their distributors. When bottling is done in-house, these companies choose to not upgrade for logistical reasons and added cost.  Cost: When preservative free bottling is an option but not chosen, it is usually because the company does not want higher costs. Their margins would be reduced if they had to switch bottlers, or pay for the preservative free process, or use glass instead of plastic bottles. Whatever the case, the choice is based primarily upon cost. Distributors lose again.

Taste: While taste is entirely subjective, we have shown our estimates of what people are saying about these products. Roughly 90% enjoy AlpineV.
